A warm hello and thank you to all of our Ft. Bragg patrons!
Choosing Your Tree
Choosing your type of wood is almost as important as choosing the engraving design itself!
The first thing that comes to mind when choosing wood is the color itself. However, many people don't consider the color of the etchings. The color of the burn is determined by the resin (or sap) content contained within the wood, and naturally, this varies between types of wood. If you desire a darker burn, a high-resin wood such as Red Alder or Cherry would be an ideal choice.
In addition, you'll want to consider the grain of the wood. Some types of wood are more likely to have more streaking or an inconsistent grain than other types. The type of wood does not guarantee you won't encounter these issues - wood is, after all, organic in nature and can vary in quality from tree to tree - but certain woods are less prone than others.
Feel free to ask us any questions you may have regarding your choice of wood. However, no matter what type of wood it is - we can engrave it and make it look great!
